Tamaimo and West Tenerife
TAMAIMO and the Glorious West
As you drive north west away from the tourist hotspots, and before you reach the Teno Massif, one of the three original great volcanic regions
We arrive at Tamaimo, the starting point for a tough walk but with varied landscapes, spectacular views, and masses of endemic flora mixed with fascinating geology.
The most satisfying way to tackle this walk is to relish the challenge of the initial stage, and then to enjoy the views while taking advantage of a number of strategically located refreshments stops on the way.
This is a classic walk which goes largely unknown by many walkers.
As we look around us at the start in Tamaimo, the two immediate peaks are of Montana La Hoya (1131m/3711ft) and Montana del Angel (828m/2716ft). It is a tough start, as we find ourselves climbing 250m/820ft very quickly, and you have to be fit, but do not be put off by this. It will be a surprise if you do not conclude that this walk has its place in the best walks of the island.
