Mount Guajara with views of Mount Teide

MOUNT GUAJARA (2715m/8907ft)

If you want to experience a full panorama of the mountains, taking in the majesty of Mount Teide, the Las Canadas crater, and the neighbouring islands of Gran Canaria, El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, then join this walk. Another feature is the endemic flora on these sun drenched mountain slopes.

From the starting point at the Parador Hotel on the Las Canadas, it appears impossible to reach the summit without being an experienced climber. In reality, once on the right path, it does not present many problems, but particularly because of the altitude, it is a very strenuous ascent.

The views over Tenerife are the reward when you get to the top.

This walk has been described by one veteran hiker as “probably the nicest mountain walk I have ever undertaken”. Up here there are normally 300 days of sunshine each year, which means it is very hot in summer but with a welcome cool breeze in winter.
