Ifonche and Southern Tenerife

The Hidden Grandeur of the South of Tenerife

If you only have the time or inclination for one walk, you should consider this one. It is not too strenuous, although you should be sure footed.

The south of Tenerife appears to be almost totally barren below a height of 1400 metres (4593 ft), and unless you know where to look, you will not believe there is such beauty here.

This walk has everything – spectacular views of the mountains of Conde (1001m/3284ft), Roque de los Brezos (1111m/3645ft) and Roque Imoque (1112m/3648ft), awesome scenery and magnificent fauna.

We can take you through a timeless world of incredible barrancos (gorges) and valleys, beautiful pine forests, all mingling with agricultural settlements. Our promise is that, after this walk, your view of the south of Tenerife will undergo radical change.

The walk also provides glimpses into the lost world of the Guanches, the original settlers on the island. Our guides will describe their heroic resistance to Spanish domination. Other highlights are the plant life, and a chance to see the relatively rare “tabaiba roja”, a Tenerife endemic. Sometimes we are able to observe paragliders jumping at an elevation of 1000m/ 3281ft.
